Destination Imagination

This year, Parker has joined a new "team" at school called Destination Imagination. For those of you not familiar with "D.I." (don't worry - I don't have it all figured out myself), it is a problem solving program where kids are put on teams, spend several months choosing a challenge, preparing for a presentation, and finally competing against other teams in their category. Make sense??? The kids do the work (under the guidance of a couple of teachers). Parker's team had to build a structure that met VERY specific requirements and could hold as much weight as possible, combine two art forms to come up with a skit, and participate in "Instant Challenges" where they are given a problem on-the-spot, and then given 6 minutes to decide on a plan and carry it out. Yesterday was the first level of competition. Here are some pictures of him and his group:Below, they are performing their skit. Parker was the narrator. He wrote a "rap" for the girls to perform in the skit, also. They did a really good job.
Here are some pictures of Parker "hamming it up" on stage while they were all waiting for the scoring results to come in. They were all very nervous, so this helped loosen them up and made the time go by quicker for them.
I love these pictures. These are of Parker waiting for the winners to be announced to go on to the State competition. He told me later that he and his 2 buddies beside him said a prayer before their category was called. In the end, his team DID end up winning, and they will compete in the State competition in April. Way to go, guys!!!! You did a great job!!!
