Girl Scout Ceremony

The same night as our flag football party, Kinlee had a Girl Scout ceremony. The girls received their next round of pins and patches, and "dedicated" themselves to another year of Girl Scouts. She is really enjoying Brownies, and now that our sports are over for a while, we can make it to more of the meetings. Girl Scout cookie sales are just around the corner, too - can't wait for that one!!!!

Teapot Parade 2009

Pardon all of the posts today, but it was "catch up" time after a busy weekend. Here are some pictures from the Teapot parade this past Saturday. The weather was downright awful, and it rained pretty much the whole morning! That didn't stop us, though. Girl Scouts don't stop for just a little rain (or thunder and lightning that we witnessed as we held our umbrellas on the parade route!!) Kinlee's troop theme for the parade was Recycling. They were asked to take leftover empty Girl Scout cookie boxes and make "outfits" out of them. Below is our creation. Also, Parker's DI team had a Bake Sale at the parade - didn't bring in much $ this time, though - I guess people didn't like to eat sweets while they were soaking wet!!! That's okay, looks like he had a great time anyway. It was very wet, but a lot of fun, too!!

Take a Seat....

Last night, Kinlee had another Girl Scout meeting. At the meeting, they made pillows to use at their Spring Fling in April (an overnight camping trip). They use these pillows to sit on when they sit around the campfire at night - they call them "Sit-upons". They took old jeans, cut out a part of the leg (for the younger ones - less sewing) or the seat part (for the older ones). They closed up the ends, turned them right side out, stuffed them, and viola' - their very own Sit-upon. It was Kinlee's first attempt at sewing, and she did a great job!!!
After we got home, we decided the pillow needed a little personalizing. Some blue paint, a fancy "K", and a few polkadots later, our very own PERSONALIZED Sit-upon. A very cute idea and the girls really seemed to enjoy it.

The Cookies are HERE!!

Last night, Kinlee and I went to pick up the Girl Scout cookies that she sold - 202 boxes, to be exact!!! So, we took them all out of their boxes, separated them out, and stacked them up. Now, we just have to deliver them! UGH! We'll take care of most of them this weekend and Sunday at church, but we definitely have our work cut out for us! She is also going to be helping with several "booth sales" in the coming couple of weeks - I like that idea, though - sell them right on the spot - no delivery involved! I'm sure I'll have some pictures of that to post later on. Here are some pictures of Kinlee and all the cookies - she is wearing the "Love Your World" T-shirt that she won for selling at least 180 boxes. The other prizes will come later.....

Girl Scout Lock-In

Kinlee is doing Girl Scouts for the first time this year. She is really enjoying it a lot. Last night, as a "kick off" to cookie sales, the girls had a "lock in". It wasn't an all night deal, just 6-10. There were about 75 girls there. They ate pizza and cake (made by Kinlee's troop leader - she did an awesome job on an awesome cake!) ........
They made bead bracelets and did face painting...... And they did the infamous "Cookie Crunch". Kinlee was brave enough to try it her first year, but she soon realized that maybe she wasn't quite cut out for it. In the Cookie Crunch, the girls compete against one another to eat as many Girl Scout cookies as possible in a given amount of time. Above left is the picture of the plate Kinlee started out with. Above right is what was left when she decided this contest was NOT for her. She didn't like the idea of "cramming" them in her mouth, and I can't say I was too sad about that. There was only one "puking" incident, and luckily it wasn't us. Kinlee wised up before we got to that point! I was very proud of her for getting up there and giving it a shot, though. She gave it the ol' college try, that's for sure.
By the way, if anyone needs Girl Scout cookies, let us know.........
