This One Couldn't Wait.....

Okay, so here she is....THIS is the American Girl doll that Kinlee has decided she just HAS to have. SO, we told her that she needed to start saving her money up to buy it. You know, one of those "hard" lessons you have to teach your kids when what you REALLY want to do it just order it and pay for it yourself, but you don't feel that's the best thing to do...Well, she has agreed to save up half the money before ordering it, in order to show us how "serious" she is about getting it. ( For those of you who have no idea, these chics cost around $100 each!!! OUCH!!!) The rest of the money will come after the doll arrives. Make sense?? Only problem is, there really aren't THAT many opportunities for a 7 year old to make some extra cash. SO, she is saving allowance, saving money given to her by grandparents on various occasions, putting some toys in my consignment sale, and Parker even agreed to pay her a quarter here and there whenever she did something for him - last night she reminded him to floss and got a quarter out of the deal - I'd be a rich woman if he did that for me everytime I reminded him to do something, but I guess that's beside the point.

Anyway, here is the part that inspired the title of this post: All of this "money-saving" endeavor was decided upon yesterday, and it's really all she can talk about - how she's gonna save the money, which doll she wants, etc.... Well, we were at supper tonight, and she was talking about pricing some toys to put in the consignment sale, and she named off several things she wanted to sell, but mentioned that she wanted to save out 1 toy and $3.oo. When we asked what for, she said she wanted to keep it out for Elizabeth in her class because her house burned. UGH- Dagger to the heart!!! You talk about wanting to get online and order the doll RIGHT THEN - that is where we were!!! I started crying, Mark said he couldn't even finish his chicken, Parker just looked at us both, and Kinlee grinned from ear to ear when we bragged on and on about her generosity ESPECIALLY when she was so determined to save her money for the doll!!! She asked why we were crying, and we told her that we spend everyday trying to teach her and Parker to do the right thing, and right then at that moment, it all paid off!!! My heart swelled with pride and I just had to share it with you all! So, Kinlee continues to save her money and we continue to take pride in moments like that. I hope you guys didn't mind the "brag session", but "this one couldn't wait....." Thanks for reading!!!

So sweet. Don't you just love it when all your teaching shines through?! You've got some great kiddos! And of course we don't mind the brag session! If you can't brag to your friends who can you brag to? :)
